Read book description and reviews bellow

From farmer Joel Salatin's point of view, life in the 21st century just ain't normal. In FOLKS, THIS AIN'T NORMAL, he discusses how far removed we are from the simple, sustainable joy that comes from living close to the land and the people we love. Salatin has many thoughts on what normal is and shares practical and philosophical ideas for changing our lives in small ways that have big impact.

Salatin, hailed by the New York Times as "Virginia's most multifaceted agrarian since Thomas Jefferson [and] the high priest of the pasture" and profiled in the Academy Award nominated documentary Food, Inc. and the bestselling book The Omnivore's Dilemma, understands what food should be: Wholesome, seasonal, raised naturally, procured locally, prepared lovingly, and eaten with a profound reverence for the circle of life. And his message doesn't stop there. From child-rearing, to creating quality family time, to respecting the environment, Salatin writes with a wicked sense of humor and true storyteller's knack for the revealing anecdote.

Salatin's crucial message and distinctive voice--practical, provocative, scientific, and down-home philosophical in equal measure--make FOLKS, THIS AIN'T NORMAL a must-read book.

I hope that I see a return to "normalcy" in my lifetime. I've found myself doing all the things I told my parents I'd never do: growing a garden, canning foods, raising chickens. I love it. I finally understand why my dad spent hours outside in the back watering trees and plants by hand. Thank you Joe for this book reminding us all what real normal is and I hope someday to be freed from my nursing job be people are healthier be of a global return to normal. Then I can spend more time with my chickens!

This book is for everyone that feels the overpowering grip of government regulations, and to illustrate the fact that we live in abnormal times while striving for past normalcy enjoyed just a few generations ago. I have never met Joel, but someone needs to give him a big hug for putting all of today's insane, accepted regulations in the light of absurdity where I hope they stay! God bless you Joel!

For anyone who cares about their health, which starts with food, should read this book. It will change your food shopping habits, for sure. It's not a book that you can read straight through. I had to put it down every so often, and think.

I really like the reminders of how things used to be, and the way in which we can return to what Mr. Salatin terms 'normalcy'. Simplify, and return to the law of a true farm. Hard work, patience, and common sense.

Something's not normal with the food in this country and Salatin does an exceptional job explaining why and what you can do about it. Think the government is giving you freedom of choice when it comes to your food? Think again. Simply put: This book will change how you eat. "Folks This Ain't Normal" is an absolute must read.

Controversial views for everyone - but sadly on point when describing the current state of our "food life" in America.

I read the e-version, and had to buy two hardcopies so that I could share it with family and friends! Ties many subjects together into a big picture. If enough people read this, maybe we could actually start to change a lot of what is just plain wrong here in the US. We should be world leaders, not the example of how to screw it up. This book is a good place to start.

This should be a must read for anyone who eats. Readable and entertaining, but points out many things that even the educated "foodie" probably doesn't know. I enjoyed it and was horrified at the same time.
